Ibu Movement : International Women’s Day 2025
If you love fashion…if you love supporting women…if you love exploring cultural differences…if you love women’s studies…if you love building up others…this might be your non-profit or event of choice. The Ibu Movement focuses on four elements in their work and their events : marketplace, capacity building, education and artisan engagement. The translation is that their gatherings are intentional, personal and spark your spirit. Global champion Beatrice Lempaira of BeadWORKS Kenya centered the spirit of African artisans.
The education portion included photographers by Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher. Image by image, they shared tales of their adventures of documenting African sacred ceremonies that are rapidly vanishing.
Followed by Pat Mitchell (who launched TEDWomen) and Hafsat Abiola (Nigerian human rights, civil rights and democracy activist,) to share the work Project Dandelion. They offered a perspective of simple action … by caring for our planet we are helping everyone on our planet. Big and little steps welcome.
The next international women’s day is around the corner. On March 5, 2026, join Ibu in Charleston, SC, for Holi Hai! -International Women’s Day Gala— celebrating India’s women artisans. The format is education in the morning with an opportunity to connect directly with artisans and shop. The evening event is a combination of heart and inspired wearable art.
