Summerville : fall family fun

Crafting a fall family portrait. When the timing is just right … I love incorporating fall leaves as it gives kids an outlet of play and is super fun to document. Blankets that work with the color palette are a double win. Sometimes they are used to warm up the littles and then serve as a stage to bring everyone down to the earth. These kiddos were All In on the fun factor.

Clothing Tip : In cooler weather, sweaters and vests are great layering pieces. They also add that fall/winter cozy feel.

Shapes and Poses : Incorporating movement when we can allows the images to breathe and come to life. Sometimes we might have the family hold hands and create space between each other and then smush together. Sometimes it is a family hug. Or parents standing in place and the kids running to them. Each scenario builds more opportunities for candid and natural images.

Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site in Summerville has some elements that work any time of year. Between the exposed brick of the church ruins, oaks with Spanish moss and old time fence lines; it is one of my favorites.
