Kiawah Island River Course Wedding - Simple Elegance

All weddings have their flow. This one was jam packed with moment after moment of style, fun, laughter, flare, singing and dancing. Documenting love, play, beauty in all their various forms never gets old. Thank you for bringing us along...

Bride’s Advice and The London and Lace Dress:

Before planning, find the dress, fall in love with it like you did with your man. The rest is minutia and irrelevant. I had been to at least 5 wedding dress stores and tried on a handful of gowns. No dress really gave me any feeling but I just figured that maybe I wasn’t going to be the type that cries when they find their dress. Then it happened. I was on my way to the bank with a sweatshirt on and jeans. On my way there, I noticed there was a new dress store in town called “london and lace” in Columbia, SC. I saw a dress in the window that might have been the most gorgeous thing I had ever seen. I veered off to the side of the road, got out of my car, and found myself inside asking about it. Next thing, I knew I was trying it on. I was by myself and looking not my wedding dress hunting best, but I know immediately in that dressing room that no other dress would do. I found my dress.

Finding The River Course Clubhouse on Kiawah Island

Growing up on a lake in West Virginia. I had always envisioned getting married by a body of water. However, I did not want a beach wedding. I wanted to get married outside but also knew getting married in May in South Carolina could pose a problem for my hair. I went on a search for water but not the ocean and somewhere outside but with a large ball room for the reception. This was more difficult than I originally anticipated. The last place I went in Charleston, SC and (trust me there are many venues in Charleston for weddings) fit just what I was looking for- The River Course Clubhouse on Kiawah Island.

Simple Elegance of Neutrals with blush pink

My color palette was neutrals with blush pink being the color of the bridesmaids dresses. Our flowers were white roses and peonies on a background of a light pink table cloth that gave the room warmth and a little contrast. We also had hundreds of small silver candle votives. The style I was going for was simple elegance. My mother and her friends did all of the flowers. We tried to keep it simple and ordered 2,000 white roses and 1,000 peonies from a wholesale online. When they arrived, we knew we were in over our heads. They were put in small glass vases with a small amount of greenage. It was a lot of work but really helped with keeping the budget reasonable. The flowers turned out beautiful and went so well with the theme of simple elegance.

Highlights of the Day

The moment I heard the bag piper play Highland Cathedral, I knew it was my time, I felt fabulous and couldn’t wait to see my now husband’s reaction.

The day itself was Kiawah at it’s best. Sunny, blue skies. Warm light.

The toasts made us laugh and cry.

The Maxx band kept us on our feet all night.
