Kiawah : Sandcastle Wedding

Our bride and groom, Karlie and Parker, were kind enough to answer some questions and share their experience. I think it adds a something extra to see the images paired with their own words. Enjoy!

What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette?

“The inspiration for the day was to let the beauty of Kiawah shine on its own! We love palm trees, so everything was planned around those really. Our wedding style was coastal chic, and we also wanted  our wedding day to feel more like a party rather than a fancy wedding. Parker insisted he got to wear a powder blue suit (his favorite color) with no tie, so that was why we went with shades of blue for our color palette.”

Did you both want to do the ‘first look’? Were you happy with your choice?

“I very much wanted the first look strictly for timing purposes, and Parker was right on board with it when he realized it meant we got most of our pictures out of the way early. We were both very happy with this!”

Did you go in looking for a two piece dress? How did the COACH jersey’s come to be?

“I knew I wanted a dress where there was something I could either add or take off for the reception, giving me a “two in one” dress. We knew we would be on the dance floor all night long, so the thought of being able to make my dress easier to dance in by taking off the whole train (the skirt) was music to my ears. Parker is an athletic trainer in football, and he calls everyone “Coach”, and they call him Coach back. It became a joke that if he was Coach, I was Head Coach. I knew I wanted an outfit change at the end of the night, but didn’t want another dress, so we thought of the jersey idea and loved it! I think it was my favorite look of the day!”

What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

“I had a few favorite parts of the day that stand out. During our ceremony, we had our wedding bands passed around our families and bridal party, as a quick ode that our families and friends helped us get to this point in our marriage. During this time Parker and I got to look around at everyone and really take in the moment, it was very special. The other moment was when we were taking photos on the beach during cocktail hour and got to look up at the Sandcastle and see all of our favorite people mingling and enjoying the beautiful Veranda. Parker’s favorite part of the day was dancing and singing the night away.”

Did the energy of the day reflect you guys…shift, adjust, pivot, roll?

“There were so many things on our big day that went wrong, especially the rain, but somehow all of those things just didn’t even matter to us once we got to dancing and singing with all of our guests! The day wasn’t “perfect”, but in the end, it was the best day ever!

We so appreciated how calming Corrie was. We kept saying that if it wasn’t for her, we would’ve lost our minds on the day of the wedding. Things were going awry, and Corrie somehow fixed every situation. Situations that had NOTHING to do with photography. She truly is what kept me so calm and not upset in every situation. She also made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera! Parker and I both are so awkward and don’t know how to organically pose for photos, but she was great and making it so easy for us! “
