“Sophisticated, by here to party” aka “Classy but sassy” – it is the perfect mix of traditional and old fashioned with fun and flirty elements mixed in! The dress, the funfetti cupcakes – everything has some refined elements and some fun elements.
Why Kiawah? Jen has been going to Kiawah with her family since she was two years old and has never missed a year! Matt first met Jen’s parents when they all vacationed on Kiawah in 2006 and feel in love with the island as he was falling in love with Jen. In July 2012, Matt asked Jen to marry him on the beach at Kiawah. Needless to say, some of their favorite times have been on Kiawah.
The Engagement: Matt & Jen were having drinks at the Sanctuary before dinner at Cassique. Matt kept asking Jen what her favorite Kiawah memories were but, not trying to be difficult, she just said that there were too many to mention. Getting nowhere and because they still had time before dinner, Matt suggested they stroll down to the beach to see the sunset. After walking a few strides, Matt paused and simply said “well I hope you’ll make this my favorite Kiawah memory” and got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! The kissed, slid the ring on, and then looked around the beach thinking ‘well what do we do now?’ – ‘champagne?!’ Matt said, and they high fived then went back inside for a celebratory drink and to make some phone calls.
Personal Touches – Jen did all of the planning herself (with Matt’s help of course) because she plans special events for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia in Charlottesville and throws 500-person galas each year! Jen did all of the calligraphy herself because she took a class on it in high school! Guess that finally paid off!
