Taking art into the community. Meeting new friend. Photographing creativity in action.
The Gibbes Museum of Art’s Reframe is a free kiddo centered event at Park Circle Playground in North Charleston that allows kiddos and their adults to come together outside and create. The kiddos had the opportunity to art and interact with visiting artists Riivo Kruuk in sprays and Kimberly English weaving loom. Do Si Dough Mini Donuts and Seol Ah's Korean infusions food trucks were onsite along with Flower Power Coffee for warmth. The Gibbes crew supplied the creative tools and vibes along with teen volunteers to welcome and encourage the young artist. Some kiddos hit each station in a creative frenzy and some found their favorite and kept honing their skill.
While creating art of art sake is enough, A quick internet search repeatedly brings forward the benefits of the arts for kids from motor skills, language development, decision making, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness and last by not least improved academic performance. While the event was kid focused, the parents seemed to jump right into art-making as well.
